Construction of the new Bike Store formed the second phase of the Exchange Tower End of Trip Facility (EOTF) works.
Located in the undercroft of the Exchange Tower upper basement level, the new Bike Store has secure swipe access entry points, 40 bike racks, lockers, bike repair station, drinking fountains as well as a new fire hose reel and new fire rated passage fed from an existing fire exit. The new area leads into the existing EOTF, also constructed by Swan Group in December 2014.
A key challenge during construction was laying the flooring over the significantly sloping surface with just 1mm tolerance in the floor substrate to accommodate the Regupol rubber flooring. The lack of space and low ceiling height added to the project challenges.
Slab to slab columns support the solid concrete block wall, which incorporates high level anti-vandal glazing, and forms the outer boundary of the bike store. Balustrading with LED lighting was installed along the external perimeter of the thoroughfare passage as well as new paving and concrete planters.
The contemporary design incorporates floor to ceiling wall prints and feature lighting which creates a sleek finish throughout to rival the End of Trip Facilities within Perth’s most prestigious commercial buildings.
